Can Cats Eat Tuna?

A small amount of cooked tuna is safe for cats, but it should not be a regular part of their diet. Tuna lacks essential nutrients cats need and can contain mercury. Tuna marketed for cats is formulated differently.

📋Nutrition Notes

High in protein and omega-3 fatty acids, but lacks taurine, vitamin E, and other nutrients essential for cats when fed as the sole diet.

🥄Serving Guidance

Occasional treat only — a tablespoon of cooked or canned tuna (in water, not oil) once or twice a week. Never replace balanced cat food with tuna.

⚠️Risks to Know

Excessive tuna can lead to mercury poisoning, thiamine deficiency, and steatitis (yellow fat disease). Can become addictive — some cats refuse other foods.
