How We Calculate Your Dog's Feeding Needs
Our calculator uses the standard veterinary formula for determining a dog's daily energy requirements. We start with the Resting Energy Requirement (RER), calculated as 70 × (body weight in kg)0.75, then multiply by an activity factor that accounts for your dog's lifestyle, reproductive status, and health goals.
Neutered or spayed dogs typically require fewer calories than intact dogs. Senior dogs (7+ years) generally need about 10% fewer calories. Dogs that are overweight benefit from a reduced calorie target, while underweight dogs may need 10–20% more.
