How Our Calculators Work
All of our feeding calculators are based on the Resting Energy Requirement (RER) formula used in veterinary medicine: RER = 70 × (body weight in kg)0.75. This base energy requirement is then multiplied by factors for activity level, life stage, reproductive status, and health goals.
The results provide a starting point — every pet is unique, and actual needs may vary by 10–20% from calculated values. Monitor your pet's body condition and weight regularly, and consult your veterinarian for personalized recommendations, especially if your pet has health conditions.
Cup measurements are based on average caloric densities for commercial pet foods. For precise portions, check the kcal/cup or kcal/can value on your specific food's label and adjust accordingly.
